When co-parenting breaks down, frustration can lead to costly mistakes. Fathers should understand one critical fact: child support and parenting time are separate legal obligations. A mother’s refusal to cooperate or allow court-ordered visitation generally does not authorize a father to stop paying support. Likewise, paying support does not automatically create custody or visitation rights. Protect yourself by following these steps: Establish legal paternity. An unmarried biological father may need to establish paternity—and, depending on state law, complete an additional legal process—before requesting custody or parenting time. Follow existing court orders. Pay child support through the approved state system whenever possible. Keep receipts, messages, calendars, and records of denied visits. Avoid cash payments without written proof. Use the court—not confrontation. If the mother violates a parenting order, request enforcement through family court. Do not threaten her, take the child outside the order, or involve the child in adult disagreements. Request modification quickly. Job loss, disability, reduced income, or changed living arrangements may justify a review, but only a court or authorized agency can change the amount. Unpaid support can continue accumulating until an order is officially modified. Get qualified help. Contact your state child-support agency, legal-aid office, family-law attorney, or court self-help center. Real Men Being Men invites men throughout the community to participate in our upcoming Monthly Chapter Meeting—a space created for fellowship, honest conversation, personal growth, and positive action. Strong and healthy communities are built when good men come together with a shared purpose. These meetings allow men of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences to encourage one another, exchange ideas, develop solutions, and create opportunities that strengthen families and neighborhoods. They also provide a place where men can speak openly, listen without judgment, and build meaningful relationships. Some chapter meetings will be held in person, allowing members to connect face-to-face and enjoy genuine fellowship. Others will be virtual, making it possible for more men to participate regardless of their location or schedule. Whether we gather in the same room or connect online, every meeting is important. Real Men Being Men is about more than attending meetings—it is about becoming active leaders, responsible fathers, dependable mentors, supportive brothers, and positive examples within the community.
